Refined from coking crude phenol, it is a mixture of phenol, o-,m-and p-cresol isomers together with a small amount of xylenol isomers. It is a pale yellow to brownish red transparent liquid which is mainly used for resin synthesis, insulating paints, surfactants, petroleum additives, preservatives and medical disinfectants.
